Argh, two days into Holidailies and I’m already lagging. My connection to the internet was bad yesterday. I’ll have to post a make-up soon. Anyway, this kid (I’m guessing he was 3 or 4 years old) just stared and stared at me, and I think his mother was embarrassed because he kept walking in front of me to get a better look. I thought it was adorable.

Here Begins Holidailies ‘09

Hello, Holidailies crowd! I’m back for another year (technically my fifth, although as I say in the comic, I haven’t finished yet.) This year would be the year to make it through, though. I’m older, wiser, and blogging a lot more often. I’ve taken on a number of Big Projects this year, and gotten more work done on my own than I ever have before.

I’ve been out of my usual routine for the last couple of weeks, so I haven’t been posting, but now that most of the Holiday Madness at work has been put to bed, and all the traveling is done for me and mine (Brad and I went down to LA for Thanksgiving), I should be able to hunker down and get to work. At the very least I’ll be doing one-panel daily comics like this one through the end of the run.

The little owl in the comic is sort of the embodiment of my work-ethic. He first started appearing in my comics earlier this year, and co-starred with me in the 24-hour comic I did back in July. He appears from time to time to help me break up what would otherwise be giant walls of text in my comics.

I started drawing myself with the pudge I’ve put on in the last couple of years, but I noticed that I’m drawing the owl a little fatter than he was over the summer, too. We need to lose some weight. Christmas time is a great time to get working on that. Not.

Extra-Curricular Activities

I’ve been working so hard at Doing Stuff and Being Interesting lately that I haven’t been getting much sleep. I made a lasagna last night (which I’m looking forward to eating for the next three or four days), and I’ve been adding a lot of stuff to my cafepress shop, but I totally skipped over Monday’s comic and I don’t feel like making up for it. Also I’m falling behind with Holidailies. Whatevs, man. I’m not going to spend all 30 days of Holidailies writing about how I have nothing to write for Holidailies.

Boss is on vacation at the TV Farm this week, which does two things: I have more of a chance to get away with slackitude, and I have more stuff to do that I have to fit in around my slackitude. Which balances the whole thing out, after all.

I will draw tonight. I will draw tonight. I will draw tonight. And I will probably not sleep enough tonight, either.

Today’s SnoogleZoo is about Advent Calendars

Today’s comic is kind of related to today’s Holidailies prompt; my family never did Advent calendars when I was a kid, but a lot of my friends did. I think they’re neat, particularly the ones that are permanent and meant to be refilled and reused every year. Someday I want to make one!

Calendar Raccoons

Here’s a picture of some calendar doodles from last month as a Holidailies filler. I spent today out and about and didn’t do any drawings, but had a lovely time anyway. Tomorrow will be chock full, as I have a comic to draw and some work to do on my cafepress shops. See you then!

Holidays, Holidaily

I joined the Holidailies portal again this year, because I’m a masochist, but also because deadlines seem to keep me drawing. I’m getting very close to 30 comics over at snooglezoo, which means ten whole weeks of posting with only a few lapses, and I think that’s fantastic.

I’m trying to exercise some discipline lately. If I’m not drawing, at least I’m doodling, because doodling leads to ideas which lead to drawings, which is pretty much what I need to be doing not to be miserable. Also, if I’m drawing I can’t pick on my cuticles because my hands are busy. everybody wins!

Anyway, with Holidailies I’m going to have to post something to this here blog nearly every day from Dec 5 to Jan 6, either 50 words or a photo (or in my case, a drawing). This on top of keeping up with the comic every three days, it should keep those art muscles of mine nice and limber. Here goes!
