Peripheral Movement Always Startles Me

hanta_mouseSome of you may have noticed that I occasionally refer to my place of employment as the TV Farm. That’s because the TV station I work for is located in a metal building on the edge of a field that grazes cattle. We get all manner of field critters in the building, either by accident or by design on their part, including a mouse that was in the upper corner of the sound insulation in the (very warm) audio booth with me this morning while I was recording a VO:

PS: Yes, this is a very old drawing, but I’m at work, and he fits to nature of the post. This little guy first appeared in the Osprey to accompany an article about natural pest control.

Blogging on Paper

Throwing accessability to the wind today and blogging by scanning a notebook page.

Throwing accessibility to the wind today and blogging by scanning a notebook page.

I’ve been having the same trouble with writing a new blog post as I have with drawing anything I feel is worth showing to other people, particularly on the computer; that is, that it is too easy to hit ‘delete’ if it turns out not to be perfect. I may make a habit out of these blogging-on-paper notebook pages if it helps me work things out. Hopefully it’ll help you, too, if you’re having the kind of trouble I am.

This has more than a little to do with having read Lynda Barry’s What It Is. I highly reccommend this book to everybody. No qualifications, just everybody.

Hosed

Dinosaur poop Here’s a fairly accurate illustratrion of what the last two weeks have been like. I’m exhausted, not really for any good reason, probably just the mid-January doldrums. I want spring to come- having no daylight left at the end of the workday is bound to make someone feel lethargic.

Not that I haven’t been at least somewhat productive. I had a little design project to do which is due Monday, and I added a few new cute t-shirt designs to my shop. But I really wanted to have done more. Oh well, maybe next week will be better, and I won’t feel so poopy.

Rawr! Dinosaur Week commences!

Dinosaurs this weekI mean, well, what else is there to say? After owling myself to death, I skipped down a few on the list and am gonna do dinosaurs. This should be fun.

Merry Christmas Eve

Four glorious days off lay ahead of me. It’s 10:30 am at the TV Farm and I have a few small things that need to be done before 5 to be ready for the long weekend. There is a four-pound rib roast in our fridge and we have no guests, so we can glut ourselves on delicious meat and rice salad and festive holiday drinks.

Maybe I’ll work on finally getting my portfolio online. Maybe this time I really mean it. I’ll forgive myself if I just laze around under a blanket all weekend watching the Fraggle Rock DVDs my dad sent me for Christmas. Maybe I’ll do all three!

Merry Christmas :)
