In Search of a New Template
This might be the absolute least possible productive thing I could be doing right now, but I started messing around with this here blog’s Wordpress theme this morning.
I haven’t really changed this site’s look in years. As a matter of fact, the layout it has now is deliberately similar to the last layout it had before it went all-blog, all-the-time. I’m bored. And I think I want to change directions here and start writing actual articles that actual people might want to read. So it seems a good a time as any to freshen up the look.
I think I may have a template that’ll work for me, but I’m going to have to hack on it to make it work- it’s far too generic and cold looking right now. But I don’t want to make it too fussy, or spend a lot of time on it, either. Perhaps I’m asking too much.
Update:…bleh, maybe I won’t update after all. I don’t have the patience anymore to hack on stylesheets, and nothing seems to be working out of the box.
Update Again: A lot of the same themes were working on some of my other domains (I tested them. It’s good to test.), so I decided to un-install Wordpress, clean up some files left over from years ago, and re-installed fresh. That seemed to solve the problem of all these themes breaking, but I did a lousy job backing up all my stuff, so there are a lot of missing images, and all my Wordpress plugins are missing. Well, at least I have a new fresh theme! I will probably fiddle with it more before I’m done, but so far, so good.
