I read music from back when I played violin, but I'm out of practice. And the notes mean something different to my hands and fingers, which is taking some adjusting. Right now I have about like eight chords memorized, but my fingers are clumsy, so I don't always hit them even when I know what they are supposed to be. I suppose you could say both.
