My Guitar

20090529my-guitar

Now that I’ve had the guitar a couple of days, I’m starting to see how this fits into the larger picture of changing my life and my art. I played the violin when I was a kid, and sucked badly at it, partially because I didn’t like the whole  neighborhood being able to hear me when I practiced. So I didn’t practice. When I was 14 or so, I was given an acousitc guitar by a friend, and went to guitar club after school for a few weeks, but quickly got frustrated for sucking again.

I still suck, badly. But it’s only been two days, and I’m determined not to let my self-consciousness  stop me from trying. Plus, the kit I bought came with headphones that plug into the amp, so I can practice without anybody hearing me if I want :)

I don’t have Japanese character encoding set up, so I don’t know what exactly you’re referring to, I can safely say taht I’m probably not watching it, ’cause I’m not watching anything with a Japanese title right now :)

    Nice!
Q: do the internet lessons you found cost money or are they free?

    • veronica says:

They are free. I also found several that are pay-for sites, but I’m not interested in that just yet. I got a little book, and once I’ve exhausted every resource I currently have I’ll think about getting lessons from a real person.

Even if you weren’t using headphones, you’re playing thru an amp, you’re allowed to suck ;) …I was gonna remind you about the acoustic in your closet, but yeah nevermind…mine sits in its bag, the other day I took it out to play along with Nick while he was playing Guitar Hero, but my nails were too long…

They have this marvelous invention these days, it’s called a nail clipper? Takes just a few seconds, and long nails are no longer a problem ;)

I was pretty sure that I still had that old acoustic- I figured if it wasn’t still in my closet, you may have annexed it (though why would you with that awesome blue one?) But first of all, how would I get it up here? (see the mention of not being able to wait), and secondly an electric is easier to play, thus a shorter learning curve. Also, Brad has a 200 watt amp for his electric bass- if I had just an acoustic I wouldn’t be able to hear myself!

        Nail…clipper…???

Oh, I have an amp you can have if you want, I just don’t know what kind of condition its in, it may need new fuses or something…when I first got the blue one me and Allen talked about converting it into an acoustic-electric, but we never got around to it…I miss playing bass…

Yah, the acoustic is still in your closet. I’ve been meaning to ask you about it in fact. Glad to know you’ve still got the music in you :)

Hang onto it until I can get down to rescue it. I think we’re coming down for Thanksgiving, at which point I will take it off your hands

Awesome! :) I’ve never been musically inclined… save for a few piano lessons I took, so I can play Chopsticks. Hah. Love this cartoon way of blogging.
