Hummingbird Vignette

I did something really similar to this hummingbird with a goldfish about a million years ago (okay, two). I like the blue as a background for colorful animals. Also I like how versatile this woodcut-ish technique with the tablet is- I can do the blacks as quickly or as obsessively as I want and it still looks pretty good.
Also, you never see hummingbirds just sitting still. We were hanging out this weekend and saw one land on a telephone wire, tiny little speck of a bird sitting so still. It was pretty neat.

I actually saw a pidgeon’s nest the other day (the momma pidgeon was sitting in it watching the people walk by)…I was amazed…
and then we had some baby doves dive bomb Beth on the balcony…apparently the nest is in the palm tree right outside, and momma dove decided that was the day they were to learn how to fly…the one didn’t do so well his first day, he sat on our railing for a while recovering…then Angel came outside and damn near climbed up onto the railing to “play” with the bird, and he got scared and fell down onto a concrete wall below our balcony…and he sat there for a good couple of hours, we were worried that he got hurt, but when we got back from dinner that night he was gone, so we figured he was just working up the nerve…
